Feng Shui Southern Hemisphere
One of the most difficult, as well as controversial feng shui topics revolve around the application of bagua, which is the feng shui energy map of any given space. The reasons are many - from feng shui being an ancient art and science (over 3, 000 years!) which leaves room for many misinterpretations to simple misunderstanding of obvious facts.
If you are working on the feng shui of your home or office and find it difficult to apply the bagua, we have a variety of tips, resources and short videos to help you out.
Here are just a few tips and answers to most commonly asked questions about the feng shui bagua applications:
We know that bagua, or the feng shui energy map is the foundation of feng shui work as it assigns different energies to different directions.
Now, even if you have mastered the feng shui bagua basics and feel confident in understanding its energies, what happens if you live in the Southern hemisphere? Do you apply feng shui the same way in Australia as you would in Austria?
Feng Shui in the Southern Hemisphere
The cycles in the Southern hemisphere are opposite to the cycles in the Northern hemisphere, and you cannot feng shui any place without actually listening to its rhythms, understanding its cycles and following its basic movement of energies.
Here is just one basic fact: If you live in the Northern hemisphere - where feng shui was developed thousands of years ago in China - you know you receive the Fire element/Strong Sun/Yang energy while facing the South direction.
However, if you live in the Southern hemisphere, the Fire element/Strong Sun/Yang energy is coming from the North, not from the South. Shouldn't you reverse the feng shui bagua, then, so that it correctly reflects the present energies? Yes, of course, you should.
Let's look at the difference in feng shui bagua application in the Southern Hemisphere versus the Northern hemisphere. I will use specific colors as corresponding to feng shui elements needed in each bagua area, as well as note the energies as related to one's life, such as the energy of health in the East bagua area, for example.
I will also show the numbers, or feng shui stars some of you might be familiar with from either using the flying star school of feng shui or from understanding the Lo Shu Square, which is the foundation of the feng shui bagua.
We know that no matter where on earth one is located, the sun always rises in the East and sets in the West. However, in the Southern hemisphere, the Sun moves through the Northern skies to set in the West, while in the Northern hemisphere the Sun's route is through the Southern skies.
So if you live in Canada, for example, the hottest, strongest, most fiery energy in your bagua map is in the South bagua area with its feng shui element of Fire, #9 and the energy connected to Fame and Reputation.
If you live in New Zealand, though, the hottest, strongest, most fiery energy in your bagua map is in the North bagua area, which, respectively, will have the feng shui element of Fire, # 9 and the energy connected to Fame and Reputation.
The energies of numbers, or feng shui stars, in the Lo Shu Square interact in a specific way, and once you understand the pattern in the flow of their interaction, it becomes easy to reverse the bagua because the logic is obvious.
Let's first take a look at the feng shui bagua we are all familiar with, the classical bagua as applied in the Northern hemisphere.

Now let's look at the correct application of feng shui bagua in the Southern hemisphere.
In the Southern hemisphere the strongest, most fiery energy of the Sun - the midday Sun - is in the Northern skies, opposite to the strongest Sun energy being in the Southern skies in the Northern hemisphere. It is a reverse, mirror-like expression.
