Feng Shui Doors

Feng Shui Main Door / December 24, 2019

The shape, placement, feng shui location (bagua area) and overall energy of doors and windows in any given floor plan are all very important for a good feng shui flow of energy. Simply speaking, the relationship between doors and windows defines the flow of energy, because the function of doors and windows is to channel light and energy.

Both doors and windows have powerful lore connected to them in all ancient cultures.

It has always been understood that good, as well as bad energy, can come into the house thru windows and doors. As such, they were always protected with mystical designs, various objects, colors, etc.

The first big mistake to avoid is the direct alignment of front door and back door (or a big tall window). A good feng shui floor plan creates a space for keeping and nourishing the incoming good energy, which is prevented by direct main back door/window alignment.

A direct alignment of doors is to be avoided anywhere in the house, especially when there is little space between the doors. For example, you will avoid a bedroom door - bathroom door alignment, or front door - bedroom door alignment, kitchen door - bathroom door alignment, etc.

By their nature, doors and windows need space around them, just because there is so much movement happening there (even is not visible to the human eye).

When you cramp several doors too close together, you create a quality of energy that tends to be chaotic and angry, thus the expression "arguing doors". Living in a house with such configuration will inevitably lead to conflicts in the family.

While slightly different in their feng shui treatment, the placement of windows is certainly very important in a good feng shui floor plan.

From a feng shui viewpoint, it is best to avoid too many windows in the back of the house, as this weakens its energy. The backing of the house is important for the strength and nourishing power of your home, and too many windows in the back will weaken the power and supporting the energy of the house.

The other guideline to follow for the right placement of windows refers to the bedroom - it is considered unfavorable to have too many windows, as well as "low" windows, or floor to ceiling windows because this leads to the same energy set-up that promotes weak energy. It is especially important to be careful with window placement and location in a smaller size bedroom, as a bed too close to the window is not good feng shui.

A very desirable placement of windows, and one that is often neglected in modern floor plans, are windows in the kitchen and bathroom.

While it is common sense that both these areas will much benefit from good ventilation, somehow this does not seem to be a priority with way too many floor plans.
