My best consultations are those in which I am invited to consult again after the changes I’ve suggested have been implemented. Then I can see if the changes were done correctly. The other day, I went to the home of a client I’ve worked for on several occasions. Just as I had suggested, he had hung a disco-ball shaped crystal between the front and back doors. As I looked at the crystal, I started to tell him it needed cleaning, then I stopped myself and asked him if I could stand on one of his chairs. I took the crystal down and looked at it closely and sure enough it had an iridescence added to the outside surface . (You can tell that a crystal has an iridescent coating because the surface looks rainbow hued even when no light is shining on it.) I showed him the iridescence and he thought perhaps he could remove it with acetone. I have since found out (and notified him) that it’s best not to try that. I checked with an expert, Laura Hoffman, owner of Xinacat.com, where I’ve been sending people for years to get crystals. (It’s my go-to referral when clients don’t have a local store where they can purchase crystals appropriate for feng shui use.) Laura said, “I haven’t had much luck removing the coatings on crystals; the coating is fused to the surface. It’s just much better to get the same crystal in clear with no AB (Aurora Borealis, a transparent coating that’s fused to one side of a crystal to give it iridescence, particularly in low light) or other type of coating, if full band-width refraction is what people are going for.” The key phrase there is “full band-width refraction, ” which means it is as prismatic as a crystal can be—it can make rainbows. If a crystal can create the full spectrum when placed in the sunlight it qualifies as an excellent feng shui cure when harsh energy (shar chi or sha qi) needs to be dispersed. The crystal can indeed disperse the invisible energy of the sun into colors, therefore it is a powerful symbol. Any time a crystal is used as a feng shui solution, it is important to say your intention out loud—something like, “I am hanging this crystal to disperse energy.” Crystals with a coating or tint of any kind are never used as feng shui cures. Any tint or coating reduces the ability of the crystal to make pure rainbows. Tinted crystals are not a feng shui problem if you want to use them as decorative objects, but they’re not effective feng shui cures. Use clear, manufactured (usually in Austria) crystals for feng shui cures—they’re called lead crystal, because the glass has a high lead content, and that’s the reason they are more prismatic than regular glass. You can use natural crystals from the earth, but they should be completely clear and capable of making rainbows in full sunlight. If you want to enhance a bagua area, tinted crystals work fine (if you like them) as a way to bring appropriate bagua colors into the area. An enhancement is different from a cure or solution. Pink crystal hearts (note the plural) are appropriate in the Relationship Corner. Purple crystals are fine in a Wealth Corner, and I highly recommend red crystal pyramids in the Fame Area. I always use clear monofilament (fishing line) to hang crystals—red thread is too garish for my taste, although many practitioners will recommend it. The crystal is a powerful enough cure (in my opinion) that it doesn’t need the extra strength of the color red.

It is not easy to recognize a genuine citrine, but it is relatively easy to see if the so-called citrine is a modified amethyst. If the colour of the citrine you are looking at is a deep, burnt orange-yellow, then it is best to keep looking for more sources to find your citrine. WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THE CITRINE CRYSTAL? Citrine contains a solar quality of energy, this is why it is traditionally considered a good healing crystal for the solar plexus/third chakra issues. It can help strengthen self-esteem and a positive, vibrant flow of energy in and around one's body. Citrine is also considered helpful in improving digestion and strengthening one's physical endurance. Throughout history and in many cultures citrine was known as the merchant's stone. This sure explains its associations with the energy of money. This also explains why citrine is considered a wealth attracting stone in feng shui. WHERE DOES THE CITRINE COME FROM? Most of the genuine citrine comes from Brazil, USA and Russia. WHERE DO I PLACE THE CITRINE FOR GOOD FENG SHUI? Your money area is the best place for your citrine as a feng shui wealth cure. There are many traditional feng shui cures with citrine (or a crystal made to look like citrine) - from red tassels with small citrine wealth vase symbols to citrine Pi Xiu (Pi Yao), crystal trees, Wu ​Lou (gourds), ingots and various animal carvings. Of course, as with everything feng shui related - especially modern application of the old, traditional schools based on Chinese culturally specific symbols, you have to use your own judgement. If a citrine gem tree or a Pi Yao will look strange in your place (I know it would in mine!), then be sure to trust your feelings and go for something more appropriate for your home. Often, just several tumbled crystals in a simple bowl can bring beautiful energy to any space, of any decor and in any culture. Or, if you are lucky, you can also find pieces of raw citrine (pictured above) and display them in your home. WHAT FORM OF CITRINE SHOULD I CHOOSE? When it comes to citrine, there are not so many choices to look at. Genuine citrine clusters and towers (generators) are very rare, which leaves you with the form of tumbled (polished) rocks that is most affordable and available. You can also find many carvings in citrine - from angels to various power animals. A great way to benefit from the energy of citrine is to wear the crystal as jewelry. Because citrine works on the third chakra - self esteem and power issues - a long necklace with a citrine pendant can be an excellent piece of jewelry. You can also find a variety of citrine bracelets, often combined with other beads and stones, such as Dzi beads, for example, clear quartz or hematite.

Feng shui sure has many tips and cures to help you advance your career and attract the energy of success. It is important to understand that both your home and your office have to have good feng shui energy, because your personal energy is connected to both your home and your office. Before implementing feng shui cures and tips specifically for career success, look into the basics of good feng shui. After you spend some time defining these two very important feng shui factors for career success, choose feng shui tips and cures from the list below and be sure to apply them in your home and in your office. 1. Answer: First, let me ask you a question: do you think it is good feng shui to have an aquarium close to the fireplace in your living room? How does this setup look and feel to you even if you did not know anything about feng shui? In making any feng shui decisions about specific feng shui cures, first always decide if it makes sense to you visually, as well as practically. Will having an aquarium close to the fireplace weaken the fireplace role as a focal point of the living room? Will it create a sense of visual clutter or imbalance? These are all practical interior decorating questions to ask yourself before you even start looking into good or bad feng shui of this setup. After you are clear as to how good this looks and feels to you, then we can look into deeper feng shui levels, such as: Ask yourself: how do the feng shui elements of the items in question interact? If it is in an area that welcomes the fire feng shui element, such as Southwest, for example, or South, then the water element of the aquarium will only weaken the feng shui energy needed in the area. The aquarium usually represents more elements than just the water element, all depending on its design, as well as the number and type of fish.

Feng shui (pronounced "fung-shway" and rendered as 風水 in traditional Chinese and 风水 in simplified Chinese) is literally translated in English as "wind-water". 1 Decide how large you want to make your Zen garden. Assess your available space. Are you going to make a garden that fills up part of your backyard, or are you going to start with a Zen garden to place on your desk? The steps are the same, the scale will just be different. 2 Create a mold to contain the sand and/or gravel. Sand or gravel generally form the matrix of a Zen garden, and to keep it looking sharp, you need the matrix to be contained. If you are making a large garden, consider using 2″ x 4″ pieces of lumber, old railroad ties, or any other type of wood. If you are making a desktop Zen garden, simply gather and cut enough wood to make a small container. 3 Nail, screw, or glue together your form. After you have completed your form, you can decorate the wood by painting, staining, or varnishing it. 4 Place a weed retainer, such as black plastic, down prior to setting your Zen garden mold. Zen gardens receive much of their appeal from their cleanliness. Keeping out weeds is a must for outdoor gardens. 5 Fill the form to the top with sand or gravel. Spread the sand or gravel evenly and as level as possible. For a small desktop garden, you might be able to buy sand in small bags at a local pet shop or aquarium supply store. For larger gardens, call the local rock shop, quarry, or landscaping supply company. This is only needed in an outdoor garden. 6 Put selected features in your Zen garden to set a visually stimulating theme. The Western bagua map (also called the BTB feng shui school bagua) is really easy to define and apply in your home or office. All you need is the floor plan of your space, as well as additional paper and pencils. Using tracing paper often makes it easier to define your Western home or office bagua. But first, do you know what the Western/BTB bagua is and how it differs from the Classical bagua? Here is how to define your Western/BTB school feng shui bagua map in 3 steps. Step 1. Create a grid with nine squares (or rectangles) that will fit over your home or office floor plan. Using tracing paper of the same size as your floor plan can make it much easier. Step 2. Once you have your grid ready, superimpose it over your floor plan by aligning the bottom row of your grid with the wall of your front door. Step 3. Assign each of the 9 squares (or rectangles) to the following feng shui areas: Bottom Row (Left to Right) The lower part (bottom row) of the BTB bagua map is always aligned with the wall of the front door, so your front door will be in one of these three bagua areas: * Spirituality and Personal Growth * Career and Path in Life * Helpful People and Blessings Middle Row (Left to Right) * Health and Family * Center (Heart of Home) * Children and Creativity Upper Row (Left to Right) * Wealth & Abundance * Fame and Reputation * Love and Marriage Once you know the areas of your home or office that belong to specific areas of your life, you can start applying proper feng shui cures and improve the quality of energy in your home. Note that you can always use any cure from the classical, or traditional feng shui schools (maybe with just the exception of the annual feng shui cures, as this can be very confusing to apply with the BTB school). The way to find the best feng shui cures for any area of your Western home bagua is to look for cures recommended by the classical school for the same bagua area (just ignore the directions since they are not taken into consideration in the Western bagua). Now, do you really need to apply the bagua map in order to create good feng shui in your home? These are all good questions that I get asked a lot! I always suggest people work with only one bagua style, at least for a period of time, in order to see results from their efforts. Choose the bagua that works best for you (and your space) and allow all its possibilities to show themselves - you will not regret it!
